Distressed Denim in NYC

Wow, what - a - week! I don't know about you guys, but this week was especially emotional for me for some reason! One of my clients at work told me it has to do with an eclipse that's going on. I know nothing about those sorts of things, but I'm taking her word for it because it was a roller coaster week in terms of ups and downs! Work has been taxing, we found out Shane's dad had a heart attack at the beginning of the week, and we randomly came home to find part of our fence torn down - which apparently happened during a police chase while we were out of town!? Like I said, the emotions were at an all time high.

Outside of the craziness, Shane and I took a quick trip to New York for the weekend as a late Valentines celebration. He has been traveling a ton for work lately, so our time together has been minimal since our honeymoon in January. A lot of you know we got engaged in New York City (you can read that story here), so it holds a special place in our heart. It's also so easy and inexpensive to get too from Charlotte, so we thought why not!? We really wanted to maximize our time there this go around, so we went into it with somewhat of a plan in terms of where we wanted to eat and what we wanted to see! We had never been to Top of The Rock so we decided to head up there Saturday afternoon. The view from the top is absolutely stunning! Although it was extremely cold and windy - so be prepared if you're headed there during the winter.

I had lots of questions on my jeans while we were there from stories! They're only $88 and I've had them for about a year and a half now. Outside of a dark wash pair, these are probably the most worn jeans in my closet and they've held up great! Lucky for you all, they're still in stock in all sizes here, and they run true to size.

This week we are trading in our coats and sweaters, for shorts and swimsuits! Stay tuned to see where we are headed next!

Our Lowndes Grove Wedding: Getting Ready

Looking at these photos brings tears to my eyes! Our wedding was nothing short of perfect and I wish I could do it all over again. As promised, I will be taking you through the different phases of our wedding day - so today, we are talking about getting ready!

This went by the quickest for me! My girls and I arrived at the venue at 9:00 AM coffee in hand and ready to be dolled up from head to toe! We had Mimosas, parfaits, pastries, and even a Nespresso machine to keep the energy alive. If you know me, you know this was an absolute necessity! Coffee before talkie, all the way. Ash & Co Bridal arrived to start hair and makeup, and before I knew it - it was time to put on the dress! I wasn't lying when I said the morning flew by. I felt perfectly fine all morning long, and in all honesty I was probably too calm. As soon as my hair was done, I felt the nerves and anxiety settle in. I knew it was due time! Knowing you are about to execute on the day you've been dreaming of since you were a little girl, is such a surreal feeling and one that's difficult to put into words.

It was time to put on the dress! At my last fitting, the alterations lady told me I needed to maintain my current weight for the dress to fit perfectly. But little did I know, I would be getting the flu that following week! I woke up in the middle of the night on Christmas Eve and had the flu until December 26th. Yikes! As you can imagine, I didn't eat anything over those two days so maintaining that weight didn't happen! Once we got to Charleston, it was time to carb load to gain some weight back! I'm pretty sure I had the opposite problem of every bride in America! Who carb loads days before their wedding, lol!? Lucky for me, I stepped on the scale the morning of - and I weighed exactly what I weighed the day of my last fitting. Pop the champagne, all is good again!

This small window of time with just my mom and my sister was so special. I don't think I've ever seen my mom look at me the way she did once my dress was on. Again, another emotion that's hard to put into words. And can we just talk about how pretty she looked!? Maybe I am biased, but both my mom and sister looked drop dead gorgeous.

My next post will be on our first look! Get your tissues ready, Shane may or may not be shedding a tear or two in it!

Floral Swing Shorts in Hawaii

These shorts never get old! Every year they come out in multiple prints ranging from florals to paisleys, and all things bright. If you're not a fan of skirts because you like to twist, twirl, kick and flip - these are the next best thing. They fit just like a skirt, but they're shorts - can we say genius? They're also a great excuse to wear your collection of crop tops, or throw them over your bathing suit as a coverup like I did on this trip. I'm all about versatility and these give you options (they even look cute with a sweater). Click here to see how I styled them in previous summers!

I just got home from a girls weekend in Virginia and am watching the Superbowl with Shane this evening! I had so much fun catching up with some of my favorite girls, and will be doing a round up of our trip in the near future! Despite all the fun festivities, I'm so happy to be home this evening. I always leave those trips inspired and thankful for the friendships and opportunities presented, but also longing for a weekend from my weekend - this girl is exhausted!
